APSCOM was formed in January 1 2001, the first official meeting of APSCOM was held during the Spring Meeting of the Japanese Society for Music Perception & Cognition, May 2001 at Kyushu Institute of Design, Fukuoka, Japan. APSCOM also represents the Asia-Pacific area for the biennial International Conference on Music Perception & Cognition (ICMPC7). Organisation of ICMPC is currently overseen by the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music (ESCOM) and the Society for Music Perception & Cognition (SMPC).
